The State University of New York ─

Hello! I’m Alex, an American who has called Taiwan home for the past six years. Growing up, my family and I moved frequently, leading me to attend 10 different schools before finishing high school. I’ve lived in five different states across the U.S. and also spent seven years living and studying in England. With family scattered across America, I don’t have a specific hometown in the States; Taiwan has become my home.

I attended university at SUNY Purchase in New York state and have since had the privilege of teaching children from kindergarten to 6th grade here in Taiwan. Taking my role as a teacher seriously, albeit in a light-hearted manner, I embrace a teaching philosophy imparted by one of my favorite educators: “If your students are laughing with you, they are listening. And if they are listening, they are learning.” This philosophy underscores my teaching style, creating a warm and engaging classroom environment where laughter, mutual respect, and active participation are valued. I firmly believe that school should be a safe, enjoyable space for both learning and personal growth, and I am deeply committed to fostering such an environment. Passionate about crafting dynamic and interactive English lessons, I strive to make learning both exciting and rewarding for my students. Teaching, to me, is truly a work of heart, and I continuously refine my methods to ensure the success of each and every student in my care.

Outside of the classroom, I revel in the vibrant tapestry of life in Taiwan. One of my favorite pastimes is taking long walks, immersing myself in the beauty of Taiwan’s numerous parks. I also have a penchant for travel and thoroughly enjoy exploring every corner of this island. Last summer, I had the pleasure of sharing my love for Taiwan with my brother during his visit. Together, we embarked on a month-long journey, traversing the breadth of the island from Penghu to Alishan, Kaohsiung to Hualien and places in between. We indulged in activities such as hiking, snorkeling, and savoring the rich tapestry of Taiwanese cuisine along the way.

Looking forward to meeting you all!
